Raycroft off to Europe

Another potential backup goaltender is off the market as Andrew Raycroft has agreed to terms with Hockey Milano Rossoblu of Italy’s top tier professional hockey league, according to his agent.

After losing his spot between the pipes in Dallas to up-and-comer Richard Bachman, the 2003-04 NHL rookie of the year joins Milano on a two-year deal, though only one will be spent in Italy’s Serie A.

Milano entered into a partnership with the KHL last year with the goal of developing a squad that would compete in Russia’s top league in 2012-13. Phase one of the plan is complete after Milano earned promotion into Serie A, where Raycroft will begin his career with the club before moving on to the KHL the following season.

Before joining the Stars in 2010, Raycroft enjoyed stints with the Vancouver Canucks, the Colorado Avalanche, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Boston Bruins.
